The misadventures of an American engineer moving to and working in Seoul.
Is there no food they don't vacuum pack?
You are correct, it is a very common technique. It was next to impossible to get the eggs out of that pack! Now the kimbap on the other hand was not vacuum packed, but just wrapped in a complicated manner in several layers of plastic. Actually, once I got it all unwrapped, the kim was in a separate envelope from the rest of the packed rice. It was a little awkward, but I managed to wrap it up as designed. I've since learned there is a special technique to opening these kimbaps, and somehow the kim magically wraps itself around the rice as you remove the plastic wrappings (that is, if you follow the instructions precisely).
